Isabey, Eugène

   painter, watercolorist, lithographer, designer
   A versatile and romantic painter who worked in many artistic styles, Eugène isabey was born in Paris, the son of jean-baptiste isabey. As a leading landscape painter, who followed the colorist experiments of eugène delacroix, Isabey produced many historic scenes, genre paintings, landscapes, and seascapes, which reveal a romantic conception of nature. He was influenced by the English painter Richard Bonington and worked especially in Normandy. isabey was also a noted printmaker. Toward the end of his life, the style of his water-colors and lithographs presaged impressionism.
